Yes, you can get hand foot and mouth disease (HFMD)

You most definitely can get HFMD if you are not careful or have a compromised immune system.  My 10 month old son contracted it at his daycare and dealt with it over a week of misery.  I felt so bad for my little man, but could do nothing for it beyond treating the symptoms. HFMD is a virus, not a bacterial infection So, what does that mean?  It means that there is nothing you can take to make it go away.  No, antibiotics do not work on viruses.  They must simply run their course and your immune system will do [. . .]

Love the Mundane

Work, school and family are the things that my world revolve around and the reason for the long absence on this blog. Right now I am in the emergency room. My wife woke me earlier in the night and I took her blood pressure twice. Very high with a racing heart rate, nausea and palpitations. She is alright now, but it got me thinking. The Stress of It All

He cries during the day. He cries during the night. He cries when he’s hungry. He cries when he’s cold. He cries when his diaper needs changed. I have no idea why he’s crying now. Having a child in your home can be very taxing on your soul.  Adjusting to the loss of sleep and the random routine that ensues can make you want to scream.  Even when you know that he is crying only because it is his only form of communication, for some time to come, you still have trouble dealing with your own emotions of frustration. My son has been crying non-stop.  He just ate, has on a clean diaper, no rashes anywhere and is wearing clean, dry and soft clothing.  Did I mention he was crying non-stop.  I mean really testing his lung capacity. If I wasn’t bald I would have pulled my hair out by now. I’ve talked on this before, but I feel it is important to mention again.  If you feel yourself losing control you need to be able to recognize this and the consequences of not addressing it.  If you don’t learn to control this situation now it will get much [. . .]

I Wanna Sleep Like a Baby

Why does the saying “sleeping like a baby” exist? Well, quite simply, babies don’t deal with the things we do in everyday life.  When a baby has a dirty diaper that bothers them, they cry and someone comes along and changes it.  When a baby is hungry they cry and someone comes along and feeds them. Not much stress there. Unfortunately, as they grow up they begin to experience stress, in part, because the people around them teach it to them.  I’m as guilty of this as the next person.  I see my daughter’s eye flood with stress every time [. . .]
