Do a search for the top 10 resolutions for the New Year. You will see that most of them include spending more time with family.
It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from or what you do for a living, everyone has just 168 hours to use in a week. If you say you are too busy to spend more time with your family, all I hear is I don’t want to make the time.
Yes, I said it. If you really want to spend more time with your family then the time will be there. The best part about this resolution is that it is easily capable of making you a better parent.
Having more time for your kids will make you a better parent
Take out a pen and paper and at the top write 168. Below that start writing all the things you do and how much time it takes and start subtracting. There are only 168 hours in a week. Put it all in there: sleep, work, hygiene, entertainment, errands, TV, commute, hobbies, etc. You may find that you even have time for the number one resolution to workout/lose weight.
Be realistic. You may find that you have tons of time or are wasting time. If you truly have no time in the end and want to make time, well, then give something up. Or find a way to include your children in some of your activities. They may drag them out, but it’s still time spent together.
For me, being there for my kids meant giving up a well paying job with too much travel and go back to school for work closer to home. All the stuff I could provide for my family meant nothing if I couldn’t be there. After all, when they grow up they will be glad to have me at home over the stuff I could have bought them.
Tell what you plan to do with the extra time you find.
